The Story of IES

IES logoIES’s 27-year history began in 1987 when Dan Abshire retired from AFRL’s Fuze Lab with the vision of creating a data recorder that could survive hardened target weapons testing. Dan recruited then-Lt Scott Ager, a colleague from the Fuze Lab, and together they successfully marketed a high-shock data recorder within IES’s first year. Over the next 10 years, Dan and Scott refined their designs and established IES’s reputation as the place to go for high-shock survivability solutions. The oil industry eventually took notice and approached IES with a request for a high speed perforation gauge that could not only handle high shock, but also withstand the high temperatures and pressures experienced during well completion activities. IES delivered, and after years of perfecting designs our recorders had become benchmarks in both the defense and oil industries.

In 2011, Daryl Moody of Atlanta, GA acquired IES, funding a fresh round of innovation. In 2013, Daryl appointed Sean Frisbee of Dayton, OH to preside over the development and execution of new strategies for marketing what customers are touting as the most reliable, survivable, and capable data acquisition systems on the market.
